What is Thai Yoga Massage?
Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient healing practice with roots in Thai and Ayurvedic traditions, passed down for over 2,500 years. Sometimes called “assisted yoga” or “stretch therapy,” it combines gentle stretching, acupressure, energy work, and breath awareness to restore balance in the body, calm the mind, and awaken the spirit.
Unlike traditional oil-based massage, Thai Yoga Massage is performed fully clothed on a soft floor mat, allowing for deep, fluid stretches and supported movement that feels both grounding and liberating.
What to Expect
Thai Yoga Massage is a full bodywork session designed to help you slow down, soften, and settle into deep relaxation. Through steady, attentive touch and supported movement, the session invites your nervous system to shift out of stress and into a calm, restorative state.
During your session, you may experience:
Grounded, rhythmic massage using palms, thumbs, forearms, and sometimes feet
Assisted stretches that gently lengthen muscles and create space in the body
Slow, mindful joint movements to ease stiffness and encourage circulation
Sustained, nurturing pressure that helps the body release tension and feel supported
The pace is unhurried and guided by your breath and comfort. Many clients leave feeling deeply relaxed yet clear and present — with a sense of lightness, openness, and calm that lingers well beyond the session.
Who is Thai Yoga Massage For?
Thai Yoga Massage is ideal for anyone looking to:
Relieve tension and stiffness from sitting, sports, or daily movement.

FAQs
What is Thai Yoga Massage?
Thai Yoga Massage is a traditional healing practice from Thailand that combines rhythmic pressure, gentle stretching, and supportive movement. It is often described as “assisted yoga,” where the practitioner helps guide the body through comfortable, supported postures to release tension and improve mobility.
What should I expect during a session?
Expect a calm, relaxed, and fully guided experience. You will remain clothed in comfortable, flexible clothing while lying on a padded mat on the floor. Janet uses gentle pressure, mindful stretching, and supportive movements to help your body feel more open and at ease. Communication is always welcome, and your comfort is the priority throughout the session.
What should I wear?
Wear clothing you can easily stretch and move in—such as leggings, joggers, or loose pants and a soft shirt. Avoid jeans or anything with thick seams, belts, or restrictive fabric.
Is this a deep-tissue or oil-based massage?
No. Thai Yoga Massage is done fully clothed, without oils, and focuses on pressure and stretching rather than deep kneading. It feels different from table massage and is often more movement-based.
Do I need to be flexible?
Not at all. Thai Yoga Massage meets you where you are. Every stretch and movement is adjusted to your comfort level. You never need to push beyond what feels okay for your body.
Can Thai Yoga Massage help with stress or tension?
Yes. Many people find it helpful for calming the nervous system, easing muscle tension, improving movement, and supporting overall well-being.
Do I need to prepare anything before my appointment?
Arrive a few minutes early, hydrate lightly, and wear comfortable clothing. Avoid heavy meals right before your session. It is also appreciated if you can come with clean hands, feet, and body.
Where did Janet train?
Janet trained at Bahn Thai School and completed the International Training Massage School (ITM) Thailand curriculum, rooted in traditional northern Thai massage techniques. Is this a deep-tissue or oil-based massage?
No. Thai Yoga Massage is done fully clothed, without oils, and focuses on pressure and stretching rather than deep kneading. It feels different from table massage and is often more movement-based.
Is Thai Yoga Massage the same as Registered Massage Therapy (RMT)?
No. Thai Yoga Massage is not Registered Massage Therapy in Ontario.
It is a traditional bodywork practice and is not regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).
Is Thai Yoga Massage covered by insurance?
Because it is not RMT, it is typically not covered by insurance plans that require services to be performed by a Registered Massage Therapist.
If you have extended health benefits, you can check with your provider, but most plans will not reimburse this type of service.
Is this a therapeutic or clinical treatment?
Thai Yoga Massage is not a clinical or medical treatment. It is offered for relaxation, stress relief, and general well-being, not for diagnosing or treating any health conditions.
